The Scoop

As every athlete does, I set a few goals for myself this past off season. It's a way to stay motivated and measure one's progress over the course of a year. Going into the season, I wanted to attain my Cat. 1 upgrade, and go to the USAC National Road and Criterium Championships in support of my team. After all of the hard work, long rides, and missed social activities due to training in the winter, I was hoping to come out of of the gate flying, and win races like it was nobody's business. Things didn't go according to my plan, but they somehow worked themselves out over the course of the past few months. I got my Cat. 1 upgrade, and am going to nationals in support of our team, Bissell-ABG-Nuvo. It didn't happen how I planned, but it happened none the less and I couldn't be more excited.

This season has been my most enjoyable to date, playing pivotal supporting roles in numerous victories for the team including a sweep of the podium at Hillsboro Roubaix and  the overall and road race win at the West Michigan Stage Race. All of the guys that are a part of Bissell-ABG-Nuvo are so self-less, hardworking, and all around nice guys. This season has been something special so far and I only hope it gets even better from here.

In other news, I started a new career-level job, relevant to my degrees. It took a a year, but it feels good to finally put my education, passion, and experience to use in the right ways. Things are on the right track on and off of the bike, summer is here, and I couldn't be happier with where my life is right now. Below are some pictures of the recent months:

It doesn't get any better than this on a spring day in Michigan

Training Camp

The team has just gotten back from training camp and is settling back into normal life. This year we headed down to Townsend, TN for 5 days of training in the Smokey Mountains. Although many of us had ridden together before, this was only the second time that the entire team was riding in one place. We got some great riding in over the course of the week with at least 5000ft of climbing every day. Some of the highlights of the trip were riding up to New Found Gap, which is a 13 mile climb around 6% and riding a popular piece of road (for both motorists and cyclists) called the Tail of the Dragon. Overall, it was great to get some big miles and climbs in the legs. Of course, there were many shenanigans that occurred off of the bike, but I'll pass on that for now. I start racing this coming weekend and couldn't be more ready and excited for the season.

New Whip

Tis' the season...

I'm really excited to be riding Giant, Zipp, and SRAM this season. It's definitely the best stuff that I've ever ridden. Things are starting to get rolling for the 2012 racing season with one training camp in the books, another coming in March, and races starting in less than 2 months. It's been a productive and quiet winter thus far. I don't have a whole lot of elaborate stories and epic rides to post,  just some fun rides with friends and teammates, and a lot of hard work that will hopefully translate into a great summer. Hopefully everyone is staying dry and warm out there!

Brown County

This past week, my fellow coworkers and I took a trip to Brown County State Park in Indiana for some mountain biking. I haven't been back to Indiana or anywhere near Bloomington in quite some time so it was nostalgic and refreshing to visit some familiar roads. However, I was not so familiar with the trails. Being relatively new to mountain biking, I enjoyed Brown County like I never have before. We were lucky enough to be able to use some "demo" bikes from Trek for the trip, and I was aboard a Fuel Ex 8. The feeling of a full suspension mountain bike rolling over all obstacles in my way was something I had never experienced before. Below is some evidence of the fun that was had:

Pure Michigan

A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of visiting my parents in Michigan, and I brought my mountain bike along. The off road riding is amazing, as I can leave the front door and ride 4-5 hours on dirt roads and mountain bike trails and only hit a mile or two of paved roads. It was pretty amazing. Evidence:
